#15 Macedon Mixer . Sunday 23 August, 9.30am. Apex Park, Sunbury

Date: Sunday 23rd August 2015
'Rego' from: 9am
Start: 9:30am
Start Location: Apex Park, Sunbury (see map below)
Finish: Same as Above
Distance: 85kms

Course Description:
This one is a real mix of surfaces. Chunky gravel service roads, smooth dirt roads, sealed switch back climbs, muddy tracks and fast dirt descents.

We'll start in Sunbury and make our way to the top of Mount Macedon and down again.

There is a bit of climbing ~1400m of up but its almost all in the first half. It's also the highest we've gone on a MGG ride, as the top of Macedon is 1000m, so with that in mind bring some extra layers, it can be very cold up there and the descent will chill you off.

Several places to stop and eat, we recommend Mount Macedon Township (~35kms) on the way out and Riddells creek on the way back (~60kms). Likewise there are multiple bail out options, with Vline Stations at Clarkfield and Riddells Creek on the way out and on the way back.

It is route with some quite rough sections, so a roady (even with fat tyres) is not recommended, it can be quite muddy so maybe that bike with tight (mud-guard or frame) clearances isn't the best choice. If you have options bring the bike with the biggest tyres, basically a CX will get you though with some care (and maybe some walking) in a couple of spots but a MTB might be more fun. Like all MGG rides road cleats are not advised.

There are two trains that will get you there on time:
7:36am from Flinders st
8:16am from Flinders st
Ride straight down Brook st from Sunbury station (get some bakery goods on the way) till you hit the creek and go left onto Powelett st (its a 5min ride)

There are BBQ's, undercover tables, toilets and a Bocce/Boules area(!) at Apex Park

As always no GPS file, cue sheets will be handed out at the start. Its not a race, stick together and have fun exploring.

Update 24/8/15
If you missed the ride here are the cue sheets and the gpx file
