MGG #8 Report

The first MGG ride out of Lilydale is in the bag. 42 riders resisted the temptation to ride Around The Bay In A Day and came out to the hills to ride 75km of what can truly be described as very “mixed terrain”.

MGG #8 is coming

Once again, the wheels are turning at MGG HQ. We've locked in a date for the next ride :

MGG #8 Sunday October 21st

Carve that date into your calendar with a knife. Or, y'know, tap it into your iPhoning device.

CX season is starting to wind up but that does not mean you get to throw the CX bike in the shed until next year! Keep it dialled and come out for an MGG ride - we promise it won't be as intense as a CX race, though we can't guarantee you won't have to shoulder your bike at some point.

We'll probably start out of Lilydale this time. More details shortly...

Also, there's this :

Short track CX racing, ridiculous costumes, silly race formats, it's going to be... incredible. Come and kick back with the Dirty Deeds crew as they chill the hell out after another banger of a racing season.

Can. Not. Wait.

Good times are coming

The wheels are turning slowly at MGG headquarters but, rest assured, they are turning. Plans are forming, routes are being designed, recon rides have been booked in. We'll be visiting a new location for the next ride - think... north. We'll announce the details soon but, for now, just keep Sunday August 19th free.

In related news, the crew who brought us Dirty Gran Fondo are putting on another event called The Double Cross. It's down south at Kurth Kiln this time and they're offering 60km and 30km options. Dirty Gran Fondo was awesome - these guys know how to put on a well-organised event. The MGG crew will definitely be there to eat more sandwiches and ride more dirt. The Double Cross is on Sunday 2nd September. Sunday 14th October!

And, finally, the dirty meat in a gravel sandwich. The next round of Dirty Deeds Cyclocross is on Sunday 26th August. The last round at Darebin Parklands was a ripper. Mud, beer, frites, cowbell, what's not to like? Check out the photos on the Dirty Deeds blog and tell me that doesn't look like a ridiculous amount of fun. Sign up, get down there, get muddy.

So, to recap, here's your calendar for August/September :

Sunday 19th August  Melbourne Gravel Grinders #7
Sunday 26th August  Dirty Deeds CX
Sunday 2nd September Sunday 14th October The Double Cross

Rock up to all three and kick the arse of winter into next year!

Dirty Gran Fondo 2012

So, if you can't wait for more gravel grinding action and you have a leave pass for Sunday 20th may, here's something you should check out :

From their website :
In this mass participation event you can either ride or race, its up to you.  The course follows through the scenic Mt Disappointment state forest over 90kms with plenty of undulating and ever changing road terrain.  There is NO single track, but that's not why you're here.  Its an event for the masses.  Never been off road before, want something more exciting than a road race or do you just want to enjoy a fully supported ride with friends and family.  The Dirty Gran Fondo is all of the above.
Sounds good to me. Disappointment State Forest is an awesome place to ride and there's 90km, 65km and 35km options depending on how much dirt you think you can handle. This event is fully supported (food, drink etc. all provided) and there's even some big prizes if you fancy your chances. Oh, and they're way more organised than we are so you can expect to be treated right by a mob that are used to putting on big commercial events.

Here's a vid of MTB legend Trent Lowe talking about the course :

It's on Sunday 20th May, more details can be found on the official website.

We'll be there with bells on so say g'day as you're passing us!

Get ready for dirt

Well, after a long break over the xmas holidays, things are slowly starting to come back to life here at MGG headquarters. Local knowledge has been sought, a course has been sketched out, dates have been tabled (but not yet confirmed), and recon rides have been scheduled. The next ride will be based out of Belgrave and will most likely be in late April.

Plenty of time to dial in your ride and get yourself psyched for a good few hours on the back roads with some like-minded folk.

Oh, and don't forget, CX season will be starting up again soon and gravel grinding is great for getting in shape!
